The good news is that there are companies who offer all of these services at rather low prices. You’ll have to search around, but you should be able to find someone to help with these tasks. The benefits of oil heat is that it is a "warm" heat that adds humidity to the air. People with oil heat can usually get by with the thermostat set a little less, and it was our experience that there was less problems with respiratory ailments. In our city, the oil delivery truck comes to your home once a month and tops off the tank located somewhere on your property. When I had it, oil was quite a bit less than electricity and slightly less than gas. I don't know how the rates compare today ~ although my sis who still heats with oil says that it costs her about $200 a month during the winter to heat her 1400 SF home.
I can't give you any information on how the new furnaces compare to the old ones but imagine they are much more efficient than the old one I used to have.

You could call it graphic design or visual communications. Design is a term that might be described as applying to the functional side of things. Pattern is applied design, usually applied to a functional item. Packaging is one application of pattern design, as are things like fabrics or wallpaper.
You may think you don't need to learn things like typography, layout, web design, etc. because you only want to design pattern. I wouldn't be so specific if I were you. One never knows where life will lead them, and you may well need to have the capability of doing other forms of design work in order to make a living.
If you can find a college that has an applied design specialization, go there. One good way of doing research is to find an artist/designer, whose work you really admire, and either find out where they went to school or contact them and ask them what they would recommend. Another good thing to do is to ask a prospective college where their graduates (alumni) are now. Good schools can provide this information. Getting an interview with a faculty member or student adviser is also a good thing to do.
