So you have perfected your candle making skills, you are making beautiful and unique candles, and you are ready for the world of retail. There are a few things you need to consider before you make too much of an investment or creating too high of an inventory. Things like pricing, where to sell, how to market your hard work, and still have fun. Let’s look at these things in more depth.
First is pricing, how do you know what price to charge? Do your research, know what other local sellers there are and what their prices are, know what the store bought candles are selling for as well. And remember people are willing to pay more for unique, handmade items. Assess what you have invested in the product.
By adding the cost per ounce of your wax and any additives such as color, scent, or chemical additives then break down into your cost per ounce, figure the number of ounces in a particular candle and multiply that by your cost per ounce. Use this to be sure you are covering your expenses, then add cost per hour for your work, combine all the info and you should have a good idea on pricing
- Small gift store,
- Family-owned pharmacies,
- Furniture stores and even consignment shops.
- Craft shows and
- Craft fairs
- Local gift shops,
- Flower shops,
- Art shows
- Fundraisers with local organizations
- Open a retail candle shop
- Do home candle parties
- A web site is always a good idea too. Many potential customers can view your products. Consider sites such as Etsy which let you list your items for a minimal price.
If you go with a typical retail setting (craft shows, local stores or gift shops) you need to also look at how to display your creations. They must be neat and organized, but creative, something to catch ones eye. They should not be crowded, or hard to reach, If your candles are scented, they packaging must allow the potential customer to smell the candle. If you do several scents, you could also set out a jar of coffee grounds to “neutralize” the nose between sniffs!
Know your neighborhood or sales area, and what style is popular, if it is a rural area, maybe a country style, in the city it may be more “new age”. Study the customers and cater to them. Remember “green is good”, try to use minimal packaging that can be recycled, and last of all, don’t loose track of the fact you started your business from a hobby, be sure you have fun doing it.

It would seem that you will need a column for the number of each item purchased, if you wish to sum the total number of each item purchased.
I would suggest using column A for the Quantity, column B for the Product, and column C for the Price.
Then, you can use the following macro to create the list with the data requested:
Copy the following the macro to the clipboard:
Sub ExtractData()
Dim i, LastRow, LastRowM
LastRow = Range("B" & Rows.Count).End(xlUp).Row
Columns("M:P").ClearContents
'create unique list in column M
For i = 1 To LastRow
If Application.CountIf(Range("M:M"), Cells(i, "B")) = 0 Then
Range("M" & Rows.Count).End(xlUp).Offset(1).Value = Cells(i, "B")
End If
Next
'tabulate the number of times purchased in column N
LastRowM = Range("M" & Rows.Count).End(xlUp).Row
For i = 2 To LastRowM
Cells(i, "N").Value = Application.CountIf(Range("B:B"), Cells(i, "M"))
Next
'tabulate the total number of each item purchased in column O
For i = 2 To LastRowM
Cells(i, "O").Value = Application.SumIf(Range("B:B"), Cells(i, "M").Value, Range("A:A"))
Next
'set maximum price paid for each product
For i = 2 To LastRowM
For j = 1 To LastRow
If Cells(j, "B").Value = Cells(i, "M").Value Then
If Cells(j, "C").Value > maxVal Then
maxVal = Cells(j, "C").Value
End If
End If
Cells(i, "P").Value = maxVal
Next j
maxVal = 0
Next i
'set column headers'
Range("M1").Value = "Product Purchased"
Range("N1").Value = "Times Purchased"
Range("O1").Value = "Total Purchased"
Range("P1").Value = "Highest Price"
Columns("M:P").AutoFit
End Sub
Press ALT + F11
In the menus at the top of the VBE, select INSERT > MODULE
Paste the macro into the editing area to the right.
Close the VBE and return to the worksheet.
Press ALT + F8
When the Macros window opens, highlight the macro and click 'Options…'
Enter a letter to be used as a keyboard shortcut and click 'OK'
Close the Macros window.
To create the list press Ctrl + your shortcut letter.
Each time you run the macro, a clean list will be created.

MSG is Monosodium Glutamate – which breaks down into sodium (bad for you) and refined sugar (bad for you) – in general it is a slow poison, but one that most people do not have to worry alot about (unless you are dumping it into everything you eat, Accent is MSG). They put it into every savory food (salty or sour) because it boosts the flavor and you have to put less of the actual ingredient in it.
For instance it is in Beef soup so they do not have to put in so much beef and it still tastes good.
Some people have a bad reactioin to MSG – I get migraines, so I have cut MSG and soybeans (the main source) from my diet.

The previous answer pretty much sums it up, so I'll just answer your last question.
How do you know you'll get your fair share of the cut?
Consignment shop owners do have a good sense of what they can ask for an item. The price may not seem fair, but just because you paid $100 for a suit doesn't necessarily mean you can resell it for $95. You really have to trust their judgement. The 50/50 split is very typical. That too may not seem fair, but they're really doing you a service.
I've been selling a few things on craigslist, and it really is a pain trying to hook up with someone. If you take your stuff to a consignment shop, you don't have to deal with all that. If you have a lot of items, that's really the way to go, or if you just have a few big ticket items.
As far as whether or not they're honest….chances are they're not going to scam you. After all, they have to stay in business!
Looking up the laws in your town and county about pet bulls would be a start. In some places pet bulls are to be put in pens with tops on them. They are very noted to be killers and attack dogs. If there are not any deed restrictions in your neighbor, there is not anything you can do about what he has in his yard. That is the one good thing about deed restrictions and the HOA. There is not a Home Owners Association in your neighborhood, because if there were something would be done about his yard and dogs. You could check to see if there is a nuisance law there. There is not one in our county. The only thing you can really do is put up a high privacy fence so you can not see in his yard. If he is renting, contacting the owner of the house would be worth a try.

Well, First things first…. Happy Birthday!
Yes it was a bad day but just try and look at it as if it's any other day of the year which just happened to fall on the day which you would normally celebrate your birthday. In other words…you could have been born on the 30th and this day would have still been pretty bad. You said that it's the worst day of your life. Well, so far it may be. You have a long way to go.:-)
I didn't have a birthday party or even a cake till I turned 30 because there was always some sort of drama going on. Well, I take that back…I didn't have a party with my family till I was 30. Imagine being 16 or 18 and your folks don't even say a word because they are wrapped up in their own little world. It may happen. So I get where you are coming from. Take a deep breath, relax for now and try to celebrate this weekend. =)

you know darlin, love is a funny emotion. im 42, been off and on with my wife for 7 years now, married the last year an a half. shes never moved down here yet, (lives 500 miles away) and shes distanced herself from me because shes never left the family nest yet. shes 38. and i dont think shes capable of that now. she told me last night, kind of out of the blue, that that special feeling she had for me is dead in her now. i cherished her and she turned on me. im so sorry that youre going through this. sucks doesnt it. people change sometimes at a whim for no apparent reason, and dont explain what happened either. give him his space, and hope that he starts missing you and comes to you. go after him and youll push him even further away. good luck.
defnitly not your friend shes a controlling jerk just stop talking to her and find someone who treats you better

Wow. I haven't heard of this happening before. It sounds like the MOH is never planning on getting married herself, so she plans on living vicariously through your wedding. LOL!!! Don't be a bridezilla yourself, but you should make it clear to her that it is your wedding and if she will not work with you and will only do things her own way for a wedding that isn't even hers, then maybe you gave the MOH position to the wrong person. Just make your point clear with her and if she doesn't respect your feelings, then get a different friend to be your MOH and demote her to a regular bridesmaid.
Trader Joe's and Mrs. Green's are two store brands in the US, I don't know if they have them where you live, but they are rather good with fresh and natural things, they have a really good variety of fruits and veggies, and sell at least some organic things, they are much better than the rest.
I remember when the candle shop burned down. Everyone stood around singing ‘Happy Birthday.’”
